The Urbanists completed a masterplan and Design & Access Statement for revised outline planning application on behalf of Llanmoor Homes for up to 600 homes at land near Ystrad Fadre in South Wales.

The proposed masterplan over the 22.11 hectare site is a mix of residential, major open space and green infrastructure linked to a SUDs drainage strategy using swales and retention zones. The proposals include the provision of a 1 form entry school for 240 pupils benefiting not only the proposed community but also existing neighbouring communities. The first phase of development will also see the provision of retail/community facilities

Extensive areas of green space are located centrally of the residential areas. A number of footpaths are proposed through the strategic green space, including three redirected public footpaths which currently pass through the site.

The proposed development aims to make the most efficient use of the site, whilst creating a high quality living environment, with a layout and design which encourages accessibility and community safety; promotes energy efficiency; and creates a place which responds to the needs of the locality.

A detailed analysis of the site and surrounding area has helped to create a clear ‘vision ‘ for the site which will offer a significant number of benefits.
