Metro Impact Study
Client: Welsh Government
Location: Cardiff Capital City Region
Services: Urban Design
We were appointed by Welsh Government to contribute to an Impact Study alongside: Capita, MGBarry Consulting, Steer Davis Gleave and Jones Laing Lasalle to refine the emerging concept of a new Metro style system for South East Wales.
Our role in the study team was to prepare high level strategic advice about the potential regional and local regenerative impacts of a new Metro system.
As part of this review we substantiated the regional regeneration priorities and explored the relationship between station design and the needs of people and places. A clear thinking approach has sought to identify new opportunities for commercial development as part of Metro stations and development. This has required substantial desktop and primary research into station design.
As a consequence of our work on the Metro the Impact Study is helping to shape Welsh Government’s response to the regional transport, planning and economic development. The Metro has now become a Ministerial priority and a keystone of the emerging Cardiff Capital City Region. The project has also been allocated a budget for quick-win station improvements as well as longer term strategic projects to make the Metro a reality.
