The Urbanists have prepared and submitted a comprehensive outline planning application for the regeneration of the former Whiteheads Steelworks site in Newport.  This important brownfield site has been derelict for over 10 years, and its regeneration is being progressed by the Whiteheads Development Company with the support of Welsh Government.

The planning application proposes 498 new homes, a significant number of which will be affordable, a 50-bed residential care home and a mix of commercial uses.  The land use masterplan included in the application also allocates space for the delivery of a primary school.    Economic analysis of the proposals has identified that the redevelopment of the site will deliver a £140 million boost to the local economy and support up to 1,500 jobs.

To date, The Urbanists have managed an extensive pre-application process, alongside Powell Dobson Architects, and coordinated the production of the multiple environmental assessments to ensure suitable mitigation is delivered as part of the regeneration of the site.  Over the coming weeks, The Urbanists will be working closely with Newport City Council and the Whiteheads Development Company to secure planning permission and progress the transformation of this important site.
