TATA Steel, Port Talbot
Client: TATA Steel
Location: Port Talbot, South Wales
The Urbanists secured fully planning permission on behalf of Dawnus for a significant development within the Port Talbot steelworks site. The development consisted of a 10,000 sq.m steel storage facility, offices, visitor centre, training centre, parking, access, landscaping.
The main planning challenge was the need to obtain a planning permission for this major development within 4 weeks of the date of submission in order to satisfy the client’s operational and logistical requirements. We worked very closely with the Council to agree the detailed scope of the application (including accompanying reports and documents) prior to submission. The robust and comprehensive planning application, and our approach to managing the planning process, enabled the LPA to grant full planning permission in 22 days from the date that the application was submitted.
Following the grant of planning permission we discharged the planning conditions to ensure a timely start to construction. The building is now built and was the first BREEAM Outstanding building to be delivered in Wales.
